Dante Alighieri was one of the three fathers of Italian literature and he along with Boccaccio and Petrarch greatly impacted Italian culture and literature. All three had close ties to Florence. Dante is most known for “The Divine Comedy”. This epic poem “The Divine Comedy” consisted of three sections, Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. In the first section, hell or the inferno, Dante rebukes and despises sin. Dante must first experience Hell before he can experience the opposite. Dante often mentions that sinners get punished for their sin based on how it was viewed in their time period. In “The Divine Comedy”, Dante confronted many issues that affected his own time period, “Dante confronted in the Commedia a knot of problems which deeply affected European civilisation at the end of the Middle Ages” …show more content…
Boccaccio is most known for his incredible story telling skills. Boccaccio’s true calling was poetry and not banking as his father would have hoped. In the “Decameron”, there are many stories that were were invented by Boccaccio but sound very familiar. The “Decameron” is one that is based on the Black Plague on the events that transpired in result of it. Even though Boccaccio was not around for the Black Plague, his stories are extremely detailed as if he was present. Some stories include, Chichibio, Calandrino, Ciappelletto, Andreuccio, Fra Cipolla, and Frederigo. All the stories are about other people that Boccaccio created, none are of himself.
