William Shakespeare’s estimated birth is around April 23, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom ("Poet William Shakespeare”). He one of eight children of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, and had two older sisters and five younger brothers ("Poet William Shakespeare”). Although sources say that no birth records exist, the estimated date of birth was presumed from church records that indicate that Shakespeare was baptized on April 26, 1564 ("William Shakespeare”). It is also presumed that Shakespeare attended the King’s New School in Stratford, which taught reading, writing, and classic literature. The first element was art. Art is found in all variations, art can be found in the theatre, in the literary works of Shakespeare, and also through artwork. While William Shakespeare was shaking up the era with his tragic plays, the art world was changing its canvas. Painters during this time period were experiment with new techniques, new styles, and new mediums (“The Renaissance”). This resulted in wealth for these artists who brought a more idealist view to art (“The Renaissance”). Besides art, there was a wide range of pastimes during this time. Gossiping was the favorite of the Elizabethans. Sometimes gossip resulted in quarrels. Daily pastimes also include fairs, wakes, and Yuletide festivities (Stephenson). As far as games go, dicing, card playing, and racing were practiced upon hand. People during this era were addicted to “showy dress” …show more content…
However, beyond the age of seven, the girls had to learn from their mother or a tutor if they were a family of wealth, and impoverished girls had little if any educational opportunities after “dame” or “petty” school (Alcin). Males of all financial classes had an opportunity to receive education between the ages seven and fourteen, however, the lower the financial security a family had the increased likely hood of a son dropping out or not even beginning (Alcin). If this were the case, the child would start work or enter an apprenticeship in some specific trade area. It is estimated that between seven and fourteen boys attended grammar school (Alcin). It is also quite likely Shakespeare received this type of education but did not continue on to a university
