First and foremost, Ronald Reagan’s philosophy of governmental power was one that fought for the people, and freedom. While working in Hollywood during the 1950s, Reagan was greatly influenced by the anti-communist movement. He believed in a strong government; military power to assure security. His first agenda was to reduce the size of the government, bring economic growth, and improve the military by spending.( The American Presidents/ pg. 252-254). In 1986, there was a tax reform act that allowed those with low income to not pay their taxes, and the middle-class got lower taxes rate with lower deduction. This resulted in people losing jobs, but allowed new businesses to come in. Reagan then cut certain programs to lower spending. He wanted to provide for those who “truly-needed” it and not those “working and poor”. Reagan also had values that he wanted America to have; prayer in school, anti-abortion, and gender equality when he appointed the first female to serve in the Supreme Court.
