Just like many other cultures in history, the people were segregated into social classes. In the time of the Mayans one would either be a king, artisan, priest or peasant. Day to day life for all except kings and priests consisted of farming, construction and trade. Where as if you were a king or priest you would deal with higher matters like sacrifice, logistics and religion.

Like many other religions there are do's and don'ts. All this information was found in The Sacred Book of the Ancient Quiché Maya (Mayan Bible). Like the Christian story of creation the Mayans believed that 4 gods first created animals. Though because they were not literate he then created dirt people although they weren't able to speak clearly and hence dissolved. They then decided to make them from wood, this didn't work either because they had no brain and wouldn't worship the gods, so they were wiped out. After all this failure they once again tried to create a human though this time he made the perfect human. However after a while they became to intelligent and the gods were afraid the humans would become gods to. So they blurred the vision of the men with female wives to void them from becoming over powered.
Because these gods had created the Mayans they were forever at the mercy of the gods and worshiped them every day. They believe that by worshiping these gods that they would be pleased and would share information with the priest. Information such as when to harvest and when to sacrifice.
In respect to their gods they incorporated them in to their famous Mayan Calendar which took multiple years to decipher because of its complexity . The actual Tozklin Calendar consists of 3 cycles. A 260-day cycle, with 20 periods of 13 days used to establish the time
