In the voice of Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, "left all of us far behind.... He gave the first impulse to the ball of Revolution.... He was the idol of the country beyond anyone that ever lived,” (Moss 127). Patrick Henry was a crucial factor in freeing the colonies from British administration. Started from the year 1765 through 1775, he had produced a string of speeches and disputes with the British Parliament in which he won, slowly edging out Britain. Their significance to the colonies continuously decreases due to Patrick Henry’s force, courage, and fearlessness. Despite Henry's opposition to some of the government's ideas, he successfully influenced people to oppose Britain as a whole and fight for the liberty of the colonies and individuals (Finkelman 976). Patrick Henry successfully initiated the colonies’ opposition to Britain because of his determination and passion in his speeches, written documents, and absence of fear.

Despite his powerful and complicated language, Henry was very explicit with his ideas. Henry found that it was necessary to deliver his speech because some of the delegates at the Virginia Convention thought that making military preparation was premature (Moss 126). Henry first wanted for Virginia to form a militia immediately. Patrick Henry was very urgent in his acts against Britain, and he was always immediately taking action and very responsive to Britain and the Parliament’s actions. Second, Henry wanted the militia's purpose to be to make sure that Virginia's rights of liberty are not infringed upon (Moss 126). Henry’s main fight in all of his actions was emphasized on colonial liberty and forgetting British administration. Third, Henry wanted the militia to be organized and trained immediately (Moss 126). Again, all Henry wanted was immediate action in order to throw Britain off balance and force them to

The Stamp Act was a law that was passed by the British Parliament on May 22, 1765. It was required for every American colonist to pay tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Some examples of printed paper that would be taxed could be ship’s papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and even playing cards. The money that was being collected from the taxes was used to pay for the war debt from the French and Indian Wars and for protecting the American Frontier near the Appalachian Mountains. Although this may had sounded like a good idea to the British, the colonists were furious and unhappy with the new tax among them.…

I support the argument that Patrick Henry gave on March 23,1775 at the Virginia Convention. I totally agree that he was right about going to war against British, I believe that war was the only choice that Virginia had to freeing their people from the British Control. People from Virginia has been under the rule of British, they had to believe not just on Patrick Henry but in their right and freedom of their people. First of all British had all the power against Virginia, British would said that they want to make peace and live freely with Virginia, but if they really meant it they would be preparing for war. People should never believe or trust someone, they might be telling you what you want to hear, but as people turn their backs to them, they would punch you and kill you, as Henry said in his speech, “ warlike preparation which cover over water and darken our water” (37-38) He Ray was using logos to explain that British would betray them as soon as they can, and that they have to be ready.…

One of the most famous quotes from American history is Patrick Henry’s “give me liberty or give me death!” This quote has been repeated countless times in American culture, even now, almost two hundred and fifty years later. This poignant quote is part of a remarkably well-written speech, given at the Virginia Convention in 1775. The purpose of this meeting was to decide whether or not America should declare war on the British, which we ultimately did. Patrick Henry’s goal was to convince the convention that America could only prosper through separation by means of war.…

It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country” (Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death, P.1) Even thought, Henry was not in agreement with the British he tried to state his opinion in the most respectful way possible, he tried to make it seem like he was not condemned the British, but giving them an opportunity to realize how wrong they were ruling the colonies by stating the fact they were living different experiences, impossible to argue Henry knew more about the situation in the colonies that any British back in the British empire, Ignoring peaceful and coherent complaints was a mistake from them and they suffered the consequences. Henry wasn’t the only one making peaceful protests “Our forefathers… left their native land, to seek on these shores a residence for civil and religious freedom…Parliament adopted an insidious maneuver calculated to divide us, to establish a perpetual auction of taxations… we are reduced to the alternative of choosing an unconditional submission to the tyranny of irritated minister, or resistance by force… In our own native land, in defense of the freedom” (Dickson and Jefferson, P.1, P.3, P.4) With all the protest going on it surprises me that the British Empire never actually considered Colonist complaints, if they were willing to discuss, it…

The fight for independence was defiantly not one of simplicity, but one of great distress, hardship, and catastrophe to bring liberty among the American colonies. Outstanding efforts by colonist and their leaders proved that the decision to gain freedom from Britain led to what is now an independent country governed by the citizens of the United States. In The Speech at the Virginia Convention, Patrick Henry addresses the leaders of the community that the issues with Britain should not be taken peacefully but that the colonist should prepare for war if their needs are not met. Alongside, The Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson states the colonies reasons to separate with Britain and declare war for their independence. Conclusively,…

Wanting to understand the reasoning behind the colonists, they just wanted to be free, but thus far were still controlled by Britain. They were being so kept on top of, and when they carried something out wrong, and were having harsh rules being placed on them. This was the one time, where the colonists have actually had a logically sound reason, not for the war, but rather something that should have been…
