How Did Oprah Winfrey Become Successful

Before Oprah Winfrey was born, her mom’s sister, Ida, decided to name her Orpah. Her name was found in a famous book called the Bible. The hospital Winfrey was born in spelled her name wrong on the birth certificate. When Oprah Winfrey was a young child, her Grandmother always encouraged her to be the best she could be. Winfrey’s grandmother had always read her different bible passages. One day, Winfrey decided to start memorizing scriptures with confidence. At the Kosciusko’s Baptist Church, Oprah Winfrey’s grandmother organized times for when Winfrey could speak at some of the church services. Not only did she speak at church, Winfrey also stated her passages to all of her friends and family. Oprah Winfrey has become successful over time because of the many obstacles she has had to overcome. Oprah Winfrey has used her speeches in order to be successful overtime. Katherine Krohn states, “She loved to speak-for anyone who would listen” (21). To be successful, Winfrey had to be able to communicate with everyone. Krohn writes, “And with her intelligence, she outshined the other contestants” (37). The young women emphasized her words in her speeches to express the main ideas. Later on, Winfrey started to expand her strengths; helping her become a star. Oprah Winfrey suggests, “Many talk shows set up surprise confrontations between guests in order to create drama and attract viewers” (190). Winfrey used her research so that her ability to become successful would occur. Krohn points out, “… had lots of speaking experience over the years” (37). To improve, Winfrey had to practice with small audiences and then eventually work her way up to sizable
