Nikola Tesla and His Revolutionary Contributions to America
“Every living being is an engine geared to the wheelwork of the universe. Though seemingly affected only by its immediate surrounding, the sphere of external influence extends to infinite distance” (Tesla). Nikola Tesla was born on July 10th, 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. His mother was the one to spark his curiosity in inventing, so much so that he ended up leaving Europe at the age of 28 to go to America. Once there, he met up with famous American inventor Thomas Edison, whom he worked under between 1884 and 1885. After his short stint working with Mr. Edison, Mr. Tesla started a corporation called The Tesla Electric Light Company that ran in direct competition with Edison. “In 1887, Tesla filed for seven U.S. patents describing a complete AC system based on his induction motor and including generators, transformers, transmission lines and lighting.” After all the hard work Tesla has done to finish his inventions he still is not done. Nikola Tesla continued his research work on electricity generation and turbine design in his later life. Even though he was 81, he was claimed to have completed a “dynamic theory of gravity”. “The Dynamic Theory of Gravity of Nikola Tesla explains the relation between gravitation and electromagnetic force as a unified field theory” (PESWiki.com) In addition, the earliest demonstration fluorescent lighting was his accomplishment. All of this paved the way to the current stage of electricity that is currently being used by people all across the globe. His electricity generating turbine design was used in the first hydroelectric dam that generated enough power to light a whole
