Not since Julius Caesar and his expansive Roman Empire had there been a leader so pervasive or impressing as Napoleon Bonaparte. Born on the previously Italian, then French island of Corsica in 1769 and raised by the middling yet technically noble Buonaparté family, Napoleon would, by the end of his life, come to rule France as its First Consul and, later, constitutional emperor for a total of fifteen war-filled years. By age 20, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in France’s 1st Artillery Regiment. By age 24, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. By age 30, he had bloodlessly overthrown the struggling post-Revolutionary French government to sit as its Consulate’s head.…

The French Revolution was a political movement that spurred an incredible number of changes such as equality before the law, a stable economy, no unjust imprisonment and a government where the people have a say. After the revolution had succeeded, the new Directory held power in France. However, many French citizens felt like they were back at square one, with power abusing oligarchs, inequality, and an unstable economy. This changed, however, when Napoleon Bonaparte decided to take the reins from the Directory and, overall, save the revolution.…

Napoleons actions in Americas, Africa and Europe helped spread the idea of freedom to the rest of the world. The idea of freedom( free trade, free labor and government) helped Europe to prosper while causing sadness and oppression in other parts of the world. As the public literally rates increases common people began to call for more freedoms in trade and government. In 1804, he implemented Code Napoleon, officially know as the civil code of 1804. This code provided for a single legal system for France, equality before the law and careers open to talent. It also granted freedom of religion, abolished serfdom and secularized the state. However, on the less liberal side of the spectrum, workers were denied collective bargaining (Negotiation between workers and their employers to determine wages, hours, rules, and working conditions.), trade unions were outlawed and a system of labor passports was instituted. His incentive for this side of the code was probably to limit political freedom.…

In fact, he accomplished bringing benefits to France within its role in the world and to its citizens as new reforms had been made such as the Economic management, the Code Napoleon (1804) and Education. Nevertheless, his blunders would not balance his positive reforms. One of his mistakes was to begin the patriotic war between France and Russia in 1812. The war did not give what Napoleon wanted and which he planned to achieve, instead, the war took his reputation and power away from him as the cost of his failure was enormously high. Namely, when the remnants of Napoleon’s army crossed the Berezina River in November, only 27,000 fit soldiers remained out of 680,000 soldiers (including 300,000 of French departments).…

Napoleon Bonaparte, a Corsica born Frenchman who worked his way through French ranks until he became the emperor of France, and through his life he would have a major impact on the world. Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769 to his father Carlo Buonaparte and mother Letizia Romalino Buonaparte. As is quite obvious the spelling of Napoleon’s parents’ last names does not match the spelling of Napoleons, this is because when France acquired Corsica he adopted a more French spelling of his last name which created the difference. Napoleon’s early life had him leaving his island home of Corsica to attend school on mainland France where he learned the French language, and eventually went on to graduate from a French military academy. After graduating from the military academy Napoleon became a second lietenant in an artillery regiment of the French army.…
