Ethos, pathos, and logos are the three rhetoric strategies that the pigs use. Animal Farm represents the “Russian Revolutionary War”. The three pigs all impersonate someone different in the war. Napoleon appears as Joseph Stalion.…

Old Major, who is the elder of the barn, depicts his Marxist views, christened “Animalism,” to the rest of the animals in early March. March, being the beginning of springtime, has several obvious connections to new life and rebirth, such as trees sprouting leaves and flowers blooming. The connection here is the seed of Animalism sprouting and beginning to grow mentally, as shown by the animals several meetings over the three months of spring. June, the beginning of summer, came along, by which time the ideas and philosophies for animal independence had shown full maturity, as do crops which successfully germinate and bury their roots. On one day in June, the animals show their cultivated beliefs and successfully execute their revolution.…

Thirteen Ways to Kill a Blackbird is a poem by Wallace Stevens which explores and highlights the perceptions of humans to our surroundings and the multitude of ways in which these can be perceived. It does this by having each of the thirteen stanzas in the poem portray and examine a new way in which the blackbird is viewed by the speaker. This poem uses a haiku style, which Stevens was particularly interested in. Haiku poems traditionally have three lines with five, seven and five syllables respectively.…

Factory farming is heavily prevalent in todays society. Most nearly all of the meat and by products of animals come from animals raised in factories, robbing them of living and fulfilling a full life. I one hundred percent agree with Blake Hurst that “only ‘industrial farming’ of meat can possibly see the demand for an increasing population and increased demand for food as a result of growing incomes”. The world today is growing at a way too rapid pace for natural production of animals. The days of animals happily roaming around Grandma’s farm are over.…

In The Birds, there are no villains. All the characters are presented with sympathy. The birds kill but they are not murderers” (Rothman 351/qtd in Pomerance 118).…
