History in Louisville, Kentucky spans hundreds of years. Many famous people are from Louisville; actors, inventors, and a boxing legend. Louisville is also known for the Kentucky Derby at the Churchill Downs. During the 1770’s settlers moved into the Kentucky region area starting from scratch they built a settlement, forts, and farm lands on the Ohio River. One of the well-known residents was inventor Thomas Edison, he was a prolific inventor, holding over a thousand US patents in his name. The impact of his inventions changed the world. Such as; the electric light and power utilities, sound recording, and motion pictures. Boxing legend Muhammad Ali, known as one of the most recognized sports figures of the past 100 years in the world.
