The Renaissance lasted from 1400-1700 and throughout this time period, many amazing inventions, artists and discoveries were born. One of the best artists born during the beginning of the Renaissance was Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. In the beginning of his life, it was hard for him but due to all of the hard things he had to go through, it impacted his work later in life and made his masterpieces better. Michelangelo had a hard early life but it helped him create emotional and powerful designs.
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born on March 6, 1475 in Caprese, Italy to his mother and father, and had an older brother at the time named Leonardo Buonarroti Simoni. Michelangelo’s father, Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, worked for the Florentine government for some time but then was fired after Michelangelo was born. In 1477 Michelangelo’s second brother Buonarroti Buonarroti Simoni was born and Michelangelo’s father was still unemployed but living off his father’s money. While with the Medici family, Michelangelo attended school but never really payed any attention. He would only watch the artists outside his school paint and sculpt. Then when he was 13 Michelangelo got to apprentice Domenico Ghirlandaio, the cities best artist, even though his father didn’t want him to. Michelangelo overcame his father’s objections and went to apprentice Domenico for three years. Only one year later though, Michelangelo left. Instead of apprenticing Domenico Ghirlandaio, he went to Lorenzo de’ Medici, an Italian statesman and ruler of the Florentine Republic, to apprentice him and that is where Michelangelo’s gifted and talented career of painting and sculpting
