Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born on March 6, 1475 in Caprese, Italy to his mother and father, and had an older brother at the time named Leonardo Buonarroti Simoni. Michelangelo’s father, Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, worked for the Florentine government for some time but then was fired after Michelangelo was born. In 1477 Michelangelo’s second brother Buonarroti Buonarroti Simoni was born and Michelangelo’s father was still unemployed but living off his father’s money. While with the Medici family, Michelangelo attended school but never really payed any attention. He would only watch the artists outside his school paint and sculpt. Then when he was 13 Michelangelo got to apprentice Domenico Ghirlandaio, the cities best artist, even though his father didn’t want him to. Michelangelo overcame his father’s objections and went to apprentice Domenico for three years. Only one year later though, Michelangelo left. Instead of apprenticing Domenico Ghirlandaio, he went to Lorenzo de’ Medici, an Italian statesman and ruler of the Florentine Republic, to apprentice him and that is where Michelangelo’s gifted and talented career of painting and sculpting
