How Did Michael W Smith Saved Christian

A drug addict. A musician. Now, he is a saved Christian. This is part of the life of a well-known artist by many Christians. He has even won three Grammy awards. Michael W. Smith has done all of this and more. Have you ever thought that you were so far away from ever reaching your goal that you were ready to give up? Well, Michael felt about that same way when he was abusing drugs for four years!

Michael W. Smith was born in West Virginia on October 7, 1957. He was born to two loving Christian parents but soon fell away from God. Once he found his way back, he started to write his own music and books. He has since sold over 18 million albums, starred in two films, and published 13 books! Talk about reaching your goal! He now knows and follows God very strongly, and he has five kids and a loving wife. (Brennan)

Five years later, he gave his life to Christ. So during most of his youth, he was surrounded by Christian children as well... (About.com) Then came college; he went to Marshall University. While he was in college, he got he got heavily involved in drugs, for four years he was doing drugs. During those four years, he could have died several times. In 1979, he had a severe breakdown, and finally he realized it was time to stop the drugs and recommitted his life to Christ. Michael said "I knew I was going to lose my life if something didn't change."(Klett)

Michael has won three GRAMMY awards, forty-five Dove awards. He has been making music for over three decades. In 2009, he went on the gospel wall of fame. In 1981, Michael was signed as a songwriter to Meadow green Music. His first tour was with Amy Grant, Sandi Patty, and Bill Gaither; he went on tour with them as a to play the keyboard. Then when he started writing his own songs, he wrote the music and his wife Debbie wrote all of the lyrics.
