Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist that delivered the famous "I have a dream" speech. He did his entire protest peacefully, meaning without violence. He started the Montgomery bus boycott and the Selma to Montgomery march and the Washington march. He was assassinated. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was very smart. He enrolled in Morehouse college at the age of 15. Both his father and grandfather went to that college. He studied medicine and law. Instead of joining the ministry, he went under the mentorship Benjamin Mays, the president of the school. He went to Boston to enroll in a graduate program when he met his wife Coretta. Then he completed his Ph.D. and received his degree in 1955. Then on March 2, 1955, a fifth teen year old girl, a pregnant 15-year-old girl, refused to give up her seat on the bus and was arrested because of it. She was obviously black. Since the girl was pregnant before 18, the civil rights movement had to get Rosa Parks, a 42-year-old, to do the same thing. She was arrested as well. Then E.D. Nixion, Martin, and some civil rights leaders planned the city-wide Montgomery bus boycott. Martin was chosen for the job to lead the boycott because of his education and family. After his first speech, the boycott really kicked off. Walking to work was a challenge for the black community because of the police so they took it to court and lost several times, the city changed its law about the busses and the boycott
