Martin Luther King Jr was an equal rights activist in the 1950’s. King helped clashing races put aside their differences and unite as one. King’s family, discrimination he faced, and his accomplishments helped shape his beliefs and actions as he grew up into an adult. King’s family had a strong influence on him. His family emboldened him and gave him the faith needed to fight against racial issues. His mother’s words “ You are as good as anyone” helped him build confidence in himself and in what he was doing. His father, a preacher introduced him to God, which gave King ideas for equal rights.
