Setting is the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place, therefore, when the setting is altered, all events following are changed as well. The film, Lord of the Flies, directed by Harry Hook (1990), takes place during the 1980s, completely changing the time period the story originally occurs. The reason the boys were in the plane crash is no longer relevant to World War 2, allowing for other drastic changes within the exposition of the novel. Similar to the thematic, allegorical use of Ralph, Simon, Jack, and Piggy, when one element is changed, everything else is affected. Hook originated the school boys from a military academy, instead of a British private school, like author William Golding
