From childhood Lincoln was taught morals which influenced his presidency. Lincoln was raised on both North and South land, and he understood the economic and social urgency to keep them together. Lincoln only freed slaves because he thought it was the right thing to do for the good of the nation. Years went on and Lincoln could not stand slavery anymore, he was elected by the republican party to do something about it. On March 4, 1861, Lincoln had to take a problem that was more severe than any preceding president. During his second year in office, on April 16, 1862, Lincoln finally signed a bill that abolished slavery throughout the region. In July 1862, he issued a military order in which all slaves living in areas still rebelling against the United States would be free. Abraham Lincoln overlooked slavery to save the union. Lincoln grew up in a religious family that didn’t agree with any type of slavery. Lincoln is a hero for not believing in slavery. He freed slaves because he thought slavery was against God’s law and human nature, which he was brought up to believe.

Out of all of the men in office Abraham Lincoln in my opinion is the most honest and caring towards the union. He is looked at as a great speaker and leader.
