How Did Life Influence Poe's Life

Edgar Allan Poe’s life influenced his works such as, The Fall of the House of Usher, Annabel Lee and The Raven. The main factor in Poe’s life that contributed to his style of writing is death, abandonment, love, and fear. Poe experienced a great deal of deaths that left him abandoned in the world. How could one go throughout life with no one on their side? That was Poe’s everyday life after the death of his loved ones. He, Edgar Allan Poe, was a lonely man with a broken heart. Allan cut off all ties with Poe after he was expelled from the United States Military. After Poe departed from West Point, he published his third book and pinpointed his attention on his writing. In 1834, Poe’s foster father, John Allan, passed away, and he left Poe out of his will. Poe continued to live life in poverty, but that ceased when one of his short stories won a contest in the Baltimore Saturday Visiter. Poe secured an editorial position with the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond in 1835. He obtained a reputation as a rigid critic by writing villainous reviews of his contemporaries. His belittling critiques scored him the moniker, “ Tomahawk Man.” Poe’s belligerent reviewing style and occasional combative personality strained his alliance with the publication, and in 1837, he departed from the magazine. In 1844, Poe relocated in New York City, where he published a news story in The New York Sun about a balloon trip across the Atlantic Ocean, but he later acknowledged that it was a hoax.
