Leonardo da Vinci was born April 15th, 1452, in the town of Vinci, Italy, to a notary named Messer Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci and a peasant girl named Caterina. Few documentations are known of the early years of his life, although it is known that he lived in his mother’s home until the age of 5, moving to his father’s household after this age. Leonardo’s father was married four times throughout his life, with the first three being unsuccessful for various reasons. Starting at the age of 14, Leonardo da Vinci began to work as an apprentice to Andrea di Cione, better known as Verrocchio.
