Leibniz expanded his mathematical concepts and created calculation rules for finite differences, but was struggling to create a proper notation for his calculus all during the last couple years. Finally, on …show more content…
First, Newton wrote a letter to Leibniz but it took a long time to reach him. This letter contained results that Newton obtained but not how he resulted in them. This made Leibniz realize that he must work quicker and get his methods published before Newton does. Because the letter contained this information and Newton did not get any response for a while, Newton thought Leibniz was taking his results and making them his own. So, Newton sent another letter to Leibniz. This one seemed to be mannerly and respectful, it really accused Leibniz for stealing Newton’s work. To prove to Newton that Leibniz hasn’t really stolen his work, in his reply he explained some qualities of his own work including the rule for differentiating a function of a function.
Paris was Leibniz’s ideal home but he was not requested to stay at the academy of arts due to the fact that there were already too many people not from Paris. Instead, Johann Friedrich who was the Duke of Hanover hired him as librarian and of Court Councilor of Hanover. From then until his death, besides his trips, he lived in Hanover.
