In the case of human chattel enslavement, the goal was abolition – and the means were to enlighten the world about the horrors of the legal and societally accepted practice. The slave narrative is one that dates to the mid 1700’s (“Slave Narratives”), and continued into 1863 when the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves – yet the struggle for African Americans continued well into the 20th century with Jim Crow. The last point that made Aquino's nonviolent campaign a success is the fact that the masses were willing to challenge authority and the power that the communist party had. Eventually through corruption and not pleasing the populace, the power became viewed as illegitimate. Chenoweth and Stephan constituted a powerful point in how power is not just for authority, because the power is granted by the people to individuals that will benefit them. " Power actually depends on the consent of the civilian population, consent that can be withdrawn and reassigned to more legitimate or more compelling parties"(Chenoweth & Stephan 2011 p.25).…

Customers experience its effects in the cheerful greeting received when entering or exiting a store and in Wal-Mart’s liberal merchandise return policies, while members of surrounding communities benefit from its community outreach…
