Born into a politically active and wealthy family, it seemed like John. F. Kennedy was born to be president. On May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born to Joseph and Rose Kennedy as the second of nine children (Sandak 6). Because Kennedy’s family was distinguished and affluent, he was constantly in the spotlight and lived an especially self-indulgent life that continued on to his presidency, which included activities like sailing, golf, and travel. Kennedy became an iconic symbol of the American goal: a glamorous, hedonistic, and successful life. However, Kennedy had to work hard to gain that position. Because Kennedy was the first Roman Catholic and the youngest person to run for president yet, Kennedy had to fight to keep his popularity and high standings in the race to become president (Sandak 20). Through all his efforts, Kennedy succeeded and became the 35th president of the United States. His presidency was considered quite successful and had a national, as well as global effect. He served as president for about 2 years until he was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas during a motorcade (Manchester). Kennedy’s assassination was and remains to this day one of the most baffling, controversial, and speculated events of the 20th century. The events that occurred on that somber day remain to this day a mystery because they have yet to be completely understood, but his legacy lives on as a leader in times of aggression and
