Joseph Stalin, one of Russia’s worst and most tragic dictators, along with the help of Leon Trotsky certainly changed Russia during the time of the Russian Revolution. They were responsible for many major events, such as the Revolution From Above and taking leadership of the Red Army, that occurred during this time because of their actions and perspective on the governmental system. The Reign of Terror, which lasted between the years of 1934-1939, was a period where, “Stalin and his secret police carried out mass arrests, executions, and deportations” (“Joseph Stalin”). Stalin thought that there were supposedly traitors within Russia that needed to be taken out in some way. Because of this, millions upon millions of innocent individuals, including people from positions as high as government officials all the way down to children, were forced into labor camps. The outcome of this terror was about another ten million people dead, adding up to a total of nearly twenty million innocent people (“Joseph Stalin”). In short, Stalin did a lot more damage to Russia and it’s citizens than Trotsky even came close to doing. He killed millions of innocent people just so he could set up a completely communist state. He killed them so he could get his way. He never listened to the people who opposed him because anyone who ever opposed him would be executed or imprisoned on the spot, no questions asked.
