This was Hitler’s right hand man, and this is the man who ultimately brainwashed everyone. Goebbels promoted the Nazi message through art, music, theater, films, books, radio, and the press. Goebbels worked to inflame the anger of Germans over their defeat in World War I and emphasized German cultural and military achievements to boost national pride. The goal was to strike a balance between a hero who would sacrifice everything for his country, and someone that could have been your next door neighbor. Kershaw’s collection of evidence from this time shows that the public was very receptive to these tactics. However, Kershaw does not give all of the credit to Goebbels. He also acknowledges that the values of the nationalist press, which had drenched the German population for decades at that point, helped to make Goebbels’ job that much easier. The population was already primed for ideas like this.…

In his article written in November 1941, “The Jews are Guilty!” , Goebbels announced that the future of the Jews in Germany was over and anyone sympathetic to the Jews would be punished. Both often used many forms of propaganda and censoring of the press to manipulate the thoughts of those around them. Hitler’s use of propaganda was most frequently used to degrade the Jewish people, but it was also used to promote the Nazi Party and Hitler himself. This was achieved through the creation of posters, books, music, theater, art and film. All of the propaganda was centered around spreading the Nazi’s anti-Jewish and nationalistic messages and creating an air of acceptance throughout the German people towards these messages, in particular the more extreme beliefs towards the Jewish people. The propaganda depicted the Nazi Party as “restoring order” in Germany and created the illusion that the increasingly harsher measures being taken towards the Jewish population were necessary.…
