John Proctor is a 30 year old farmer that is well-respected by his town. He is married to Elizabeth Proctor and is the father to three boys. During the argument John says, “ I will curse her hotter than the oldest cider in hell. But pray, begrudge me not my anger” (pg.59). John still cares about Elithabeth and he will do anything for her. Including cursing Abigail. He just won’t ruin his name for something that is not worth it. Later on in the play a lot of people get accused of witchcraft including Elizabeth Proctor. Elithabeth then says, “If you think that I am one, then i say there are none.” By this she means if people are accusing her of being a witch than she simply does not believe in witches because she know for a fact that she is not a witch. John proctor then defends he by stating that She believe in every word of the gospel. He is giving her a good name in front of the court to protect her and for he not to get hurt. Then they accuse John Proctor of not being a true Christian. John Proctor then says, “ I have no love for Mr.Parris. It is no secret. But God I surely love” (pg.84).
