John Locke was born on August 29 in 1632. His father was a clerk and served in the English civil war. Locke was born in Wrington, England; however, he was raised in Pensford. After England’s first civil war ended, John’s father put him in the Westminster School. During his schooling, Locke was elected a King scholar for his intelligence; however, he didn’t not enjoy schooling. Moreover, Locke, at age twenty, began college at the University of Oxford. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and master’s degree in arts. John Locke collaborated with many scientist and later became a part of the royal society. Specifically, in the United States, John Locke greatly influenced Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence. John Locke’s writing, “Second Treatise of Government,” showed his beliefs that the government should protect their people’s rights and that if the people are not given this protection or rights they can over throw the government. This writing truly shaped the United States today because of the impact it had on the Declaration of Independence. Today in America, people have the freedom and right to do what they want and when they want.
