Jane moved between relatives’ homes in Bath, London, Clifton, Warwickshire, and finally, in 1806, to Southampton. In Southampton, Jane, her mother, and sisters lived with Captain Francis Austen, Jane’s brother, and his wife. In 1808, Edward Austen, another brother, gifted the women with Chawton Cottage in Hampshire, where they could permanently reside (Academic).
Jane found new inspirations for writing at Chawton, and made Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice ready for publication. Thomas Egerton published Sense and Sensibility in November of 1811, followed by Pride and Prejudice in January of 1813. In 1814, second editions were published of the two novels, as well as Mansfield Park, which Jane had begun in 1811. Jane began Emma in January of 1814, which was published by December of 1815.
