Isabella d’Este was an important lady in the Renaissance that made many advancing changes. She was born in 1474 to the ruling family of Ferrara. Her father believed that all of his children deserved a full education; this was an unknown concept in the renaissance since most girls were not permitted to get a full education, as that was only available for boys. In Italy at that time, it was crucial for a princess to marry a prince from another wealthy city/town in Italy so the kingdom could benefit and become allies with that city/town. Isabella was engaged to Francesco Gonzaga of Mantua when she was six years old but was married ten years later at a more suitable age. She was a patron to many famous artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Mantegna, Titan, and many more. She turned Mantua into a cultural center by converting the ducal apartments into a museum because she understood the importance of arts and she wanted Mantua to be a cultural artistic city to make it better for the people and for the tourists. One very important way she affected the arts was that she invited and encouraged artists, writers, and poets to exchange ideas with her. This made the people feel important and that the ruler cared about their opinions, which is the reason why many people liked having her as ruler.
