Henry Every is the pirate I have chosen to research. He was born in England on August 23rd, 1659. In the years he was active he was one of the most infamous pirates. He also was known for being one of the most profitable pirates during the years he was most active. The time he was born was after the time colonies in the new world were already becoming well established, so he was not the first of his kind to be a criminal on a boat. Every was a part of the Royal Navy in his early adult hood, after being discharged from the Navy he started in the industry of slave trading. The slave trading job did not sustain for too long and he was then appointed for a position on a warship, but after some time he took changed the name of the ship from “Charles II” to “Fancy”. …show more content…
He began gaining more crew and vessels and had a real fleet going for him. Other famous pirates were actually under his leadership at one point before being their own great pirates. Every had 5 ships that were able to attack most other ships that were overly defensed. It is said that Henrys biggest profiting attack was on a Grand Moghul’s India convoy ship. The single ship that was attacked was a part of a larger fleet, but after the fleet spotted Every’s ships they fled and only a couple were left after an all-night chase. Men were captured from the ship and tortured for locations of treasures, this is not at all uncommon for the era. His overall net earnings from this attack were about 600,000 pounds of gold, jewels, and silver. Each crew member was given 1,000 pounds of these treasures, which was equivalent to 80 years of sea

Samuel Bellamy was a pirate in the Carribean. He was a former Royal Navy sailor in his early life. He later became a pirate. He gained a considerable presence by engaging more and more considerably sized ships and eventually became a plundering heavyweight to rival pirates such as Blackbeard. Thus, to get a better understanding of the notorious women, two sources have been compared. Unfortunately for merchant interests, enticing pirates to quit their criminal endeavors failed as badly as the military efforts to stop them. Although pardons were successful at bringing pirates into shore, they did not keep them for long. Many shook the hand of the governor, swore his allegiance to the crown, and then shortly returned to preying on vessels at sea. The failure of pardons to slow the proliferation of piracy cannot all be blamed on piratical greed. Pardons were specific to regions and times, and the vague language they contained raised fear of trickery.…

Henry was born in England approximately in 1565. Most of his life prior to 1607 is unknown, however, it is believed that he learned seafaring first hand from sailors or fishermen. Evidence indicates that he probably had three sons and was married to a woman named Katherine. It is also quite likely that he had a talent for navigation, because in Hudson's late 20s, he was hired as a ship commander to find a northeast passage…

The Plea to Commence War In order to gain freedom from the despotism of the British monarchy, citizens of the United States took it into their hands to persuade the loyalists to take action against injustice. In 1775, Patrick Henry powerfully addressed the idea to commence war upon the British to resolve the issue of oppression at the Virginia Convention. He was able to conjure conflict and fear within the minds of the audience members by appealing to emotion, and making religious or authoritative remarks in front of colonists who felt enslaved by the British. Patrick Henry’s intentions were to provoke the result of the declaration of war in rage against British oppression.…

Authors Main Arguments John Appleby argues that a few women during the 16th and 17th Centuries participated in committing piracy at sea. During that time, piracy was male dominated and any accounts of female participation was small. The author states that it is difficult to find recorded history surrounding females aboard ships because of how unconventional it was for women to take part. He argues that it is not female physical capability that restricts them, but it is instead the environment onboard a ship and folk superstitions that prevented them from wanting to become pirates. To study the relationship between women and piracy, the author examines two of the most well known female pirates in history: Anne Bonny and Mary Read.…
