In The Woman Called Moses the central idea is that she wanted to be free. She wanted to free other slaves even though it would cost her life. When she escaped she knew she needed to bring her friends and family back to the North. When she got to the North she felt like a new person free and not a slave. She wanted other slaves to feel that. As a conductor for the underground railroad her life was in danger, but she still wanted to help the slaves escape.
