That is the reason why this dream is often looked down upon, because many don’t think it is worth their own lives. Yet, this did not stop Lee from getting her point across, no, infact it empowered her to make a novel about the injustice of this dream. She wanted to prove to others that it is tough to grab onto but that it is not impossible. For the sole purpose of equality, Lee took on this topic head on and created a novel that had every point of view of this social injustice and degradation of certain races, which in this case was African Americans. Harper Lee encourages the American dream, especially in the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird.” In this novel Scout is seen as an innocent figure who is slowly ridding of her innocence due to her realizing just how uncaring and cold many can be. The American Dream in this novel is portrayed as Scout’s father. He is a man who is noble, honest, and humble. He fights for the rights of an African American who is accused of raping a white woman even though many are just against him due to his skin color.
