How Did Hamlet Kill Claudius

There is one main reason for Hamlet to resist murdering Claudius throughout the play to exact revenge for his father’s death. Hamlet’s resistance to exacting revenge is his internal conflict which plays a major role in the play since he cannot seem to overcome it until the very end of the play when he finally kills Claudius. Hamlet undergoes many moral dilemmas. For example, at the beginning of the play, Hamlet encounters a spirit -that he strongly believes is his father -and instructs him to exact revenge, however, Hamlet tells the spirit to tell him quickly how he should exact revenge before his “meditation or the thoughts of love, sweep to my revenge” (1.5.31-32). Since Claudius is praying at the time, his murder may send him to heaven since he would have been murdered while doing a righteous deed. In addition, Hamlet resists because of his love for his mother. Claudius’s murder may devastate her since she loves him dearly at the time and is unknown of his heinous deed. Throughout the play, Hamlet has many things to think about such as his morals, duty to family, God, and his friends. Therefore, Hamlet is torn between wanting to kill Claudius and not killing him. Although he was many other reasons to kill him, he decides to wait until he is certain that revenge is the right path to take which would be against his beliefs and family
