Born on October 2,1866, Mahatma Gandhi a religious leader taught and preached non- violence. Gandhi was born in North West India. His father's was a minister of Porbandar and his mother was a religious leader(Mahatma).
In Gandhi’s life time he went through many difficult times that made him famous to this day. At the beginning of his career in 1893 Gandhi went on a trip to the capital of Transversal after accepting an offer from Moslems to represent them. On his journey a white man kicked Gandhi off the train he was traveling on because of racial prejudice (Gandhi).This experience led to the making of the Indian National Congress this created an environment of non-violence.Gandhi decided to remain in South Africa and experienced six attempted assassinations during the journey of fame.

This was shown in the famous and well known “salt march”(Mohandas). The salt march started when the British decided to tax the salt commonly used by Indians. Gandhi as well as others were devastated. This deeply affected the peasants. By 1930 Gandhi decided to fight back and create the “salt march”.This was a famous 24-day walk to the ocean with Gandhi leading a several thousand marchers. The walk was about 241 miles to the coast. At the end of the 24-day journey and 241 mile walk Gandhi walked up to the shore and picked up a handful of salt. The symbol he represented was in defiance of the government. His symbol was a nationwide movement. British noticed that they were subjugating India.
