The Stamp Act caused an uproar among the people of America when it was passed on
March 22, 1765, but what people don't know is that there was a different force driving the waves of anger and rebellion. Most individuals believe that the colonist were angry about the tax because they didn't want to pay for Britain's expenses. The real reason the Colonist were offended though, is because of how the men believed they were being treated. As they still considered themselves Englishmen they believed that by being taxed without a representative, tax collectors treated the as peasants or, as males were dominant at the time, women.
