The Kings of the Music Industry Two of America’s all time music icons, Elvis Presley “The King of Rock and Roll” and Michael Jackson “The King of Pop” and how they changed the music industry. Elvis Presley was born on Jan 8, 1935 to Gladys and Vernon Presley in East Tupelo, Mississippi. Unfortunately at the time of birth Elvis’s twin brother Jesse was stillborn, and Elvis grew up an only child. While Michael Jackson was born on Aug 29, 1958 to Katherine and Joe Jackson in Gary Indiana. Michael grew up in a large family with nine siblings, five brothers and six sisters. Although both Elvis and Michael entered talent shows as children, Elvis’s entry into the music industry didn’t come about until 1954 when he met Sam Phillips from Sun Records, at the time Elvis was a truck driver for Sun Electric and was curious about how he …show more content…
Although unhappy with his first attempt at recording “My Happiness” and “That’s Where Your Heartache Begin”, he went back in early 1954 and recorded “Casual Love Affair” and “I’ll Never Stand in Your Way” this is when he met Sam Phillips, and shortly after he signed with Sun Records, although in 1955 his contract was sold to RCA Victor, and by 1956 he was an “International Sensation”, all within the first three years of his music career. Michael’s start in music came in 1964, when at the age of six, and his father started entering “The Jackson Brothers” into talent shows and they recorded a single “Big Boy” for a local Steeltown recording studio, and started performing in local Chicago clubs.
