Eleanor Roosevelt was a very important woman in history. Her husband Theodore Roosevelt was a victim of polio, and it almost took his life, but he began to slowly recover. He was elected president and Eleanor was the first lady. As said in a biography by William Jay Jacobs, " To keep Franklin in the public eye while he was recovering, she had gotten involved in politics herself." Eleanor was unlike the wives of presidents before her, she was the first to help with political, and social issues. She went to charity kitchens to make food, and visited slums.
