Edith Cavell was born on December 4, 1865 in Swardeston, a small village that is located near Norwich located in England. She had three younger siblings: Florence, Lilian and John. Her father was The Reverend Frederick Cavell and her mother was Louisa Sophia. She never went to elementary and middle school. During this time, she painted many flowers, said to be inspired by Landseer, but she did not spend all of her time painting. A lot of the time she would ice skate in the winter. Everyone tried to make sure that they don’t do this. Edith Cavell even did this. She said that she would do this , but when two wounded Allied soldiers came to her in pain, she just could not say no to them. She nursed these two Allied soldiers back to health. After this, many more Allied soldiers came to her to be nursed to help. Even more, she helped them escaped the German- covered Belgium. The way she did this was by pretending to walk her dog while having the Allied soldiers dressed like monks and take them to the front lines like this. During this time, many people suspected her of harboring Allied soldiers. So, when any Allied soldiers or spies dressed as Allied soldiers came, she asked them what the password was, and if they answered correctly, they would be allowed inside. But, if they didn’t know the password (yorc), they would be told to leave. She did this for two more years helping over 200 Allied
