How Did Donald Trump Influence Mike Pence

The 2016 election surprised everyone with the success of Donald Trump and Mike Pence as Vice/President of the United States. This will result in a “full-blown assault on LGBTQ rights (Signorile)” that many younger LGBT community members have no experienced. Despite what Trump may say, he is no friend of the gay and lesbian community. His running mate, Mike Pence, is even worse. People have claimed that “the vice president… would really be the “CEO” - or, the president of the company - while Trump would be more like the “chairman of the board (Signorile).” There has been other research that points toward Pence being the most powerful vice president we’ve seen. Mike Pence has a history against the LGBT community. He is known as one of the most …show more content…
First, Trump’s political and military background, or, lack of it. Donald Trump will be the first president of the United States that has done zero years in public office and zero years of military service (Crockett). Even the other presidents who had no political experience before entering office, Zachary Taylor, Ulysses S. Grant, and Dwight Eisenhower, did at least 20 years of military service. This is important because it shows his lack of experience and how easy Trump is going to be influenced in his four years (and hopefully no more than that) as …show more content…
People don’t realize how terrifying it is. The treatments range from medications - one man reported receiving near fatal doses of five different medicines. It only gets worse, one approach at conversion therapy is to “bottle… feces and… sniff it whenever… attracted to a man (Gajdics).” Going further, electroshock therapy is also used during conversion therapy. One boy in particular, at age twelve was put through conversion therapy and experienced horrifying “techniques.” One was his hands being frozen while shown pictures of intimacy - to associate it with pain (Bentley). Not just frozen, but he was also burned in similar situations. He was electrocuted many times and experienced psychological abuse with death threats (Bentley). And these are only a few examples of the torture LGBT community members go

Representative Julio Gonzalez filed a “religious” freedom protection bill that would allow any healthcare provider to refuse services to any person who violated the provider’s moral and/or religious conscience meaning the bill is clearly aimed at gay people even though the bill doesn’t mention sexual orientation. In addition Gonzalez wants to empower adoption agencies to refuse to place children in homes with two lesbians all due to their religious convictions and also allow individuals and small companies to refuse service on the same grounds. Gonzalez has already implemented this bill in Arkansas and Indiana. I for one do not support his bill because health insurance should be available for everyone, religion shouldn’t be used to discriminate others, and if the bill becomes law, these businesses would not have “to produce, create, or deliver a product or service” that violates a religious or moral principle held by a business or its employees. Health insurance should be available for everybody no matter the size, the color, nor where you come from.…

To start off, he is very far behind on hiring staff members for his administration. Trump has only made fifty nominations to fill the top 553 positions of the executive branch, as of Friday. This means that he has not selected anyone for ninety percent of its top jobs. The average president had nominated twice as many since 1989. Another thing that Trump is by far…

The Laramie Project, written by Moises Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theater Project, offers a commentary on homosexuality and living as a minority in the United States. As a gay man, Matthew Shepard represents a small minority in the overwhelmingly conservative town of Laramie, Wyoming. In Laramie, the population is largely straight and 89.39% Caucasian. These demographics represent one of the most reserved political views of rural republicanism. Rural republicans are largely homophobic, pro-life, and share a fear of the unknown.…

As president he must speak softly and be willing to use the big stick if need be, and let history be the judge of his actions. Through Mills philosophical concept of utility, Trump will need to think on the utility of the United States first, and the rest of the world second. Based on the philosophers we learned about in class, Trump would not follow the ideas of John Rawls. Being a politician and also being a leader, Trump won’t be able to be fair. In order for him to make a decision someone will have to win, and someone will have to…

Electroshock therapy has been banned in the United States; however, there are still many cruel forms of conversion therapy that are being used today. Conversion therapy is an ineffective form of therapy as it damages people’s emotional physcee, physically harms people through violent measures, and through statistics has been proven not to work. One result of conversion therapy is the psychological damages that it has on its patients. Gabriel Arana underwent conversion therapy at the age of 17.…

VATICAN CITY -- (AP) It's now quite certain that Pope Francis' big summit on family issues won't endorse any changes to church doctrine on the church's teaching about homosexuality or whether civilly remarried Catholics can receive Communion. And yet, it seems, everything has changed. From the crucial role African bishops have played in the debate, to calls to remove "intrinsically disordered" from the church's language on gays, to the freedom bishops now enjoy to speak their minds on once-taboo issues, Francis' synod on the family has at the very least shaken up the church for years to come.…

Many LGBTQ+ citizens are concerned, perhaps rightfully so, about what the Trump-Pence era holds in store for the rights they have fought so hard to obtain. Questions ranging from “is this the end of same-sex marriage?” to “will I lose my Obamacare?” plague the thoughts of many in a time of confusion, anger, and in many cases, hopelessness.…

In this documentary the closeted politicians deny their homosexuality, actively vote against rights being obtained in the gay community, hide their activities with their same-sex partners, and some men even have wives and a family as a cover-up for their homosexuality (Ziering & Dick, 2009). One of the men goes so far as to solicit having sex in the bathroom of an airport with another male (Ziering & Dick, 2009). These politicians are heavily scrutinized for their actions and are under the microscope daily. It is evident that by denying their predisposed desires, these men often take drastic measures to hide their sexuality while acting upon their innate desires. The reason a politician might display hate towards the gay community that he is supposedly involved in is because often individuals show outward detest for things that they secretly despise about themselves.…

When Donald Trump announced his running mate, Mike Pence to be his vice-president, many people of the LGBTQIA community across the country fell into a panic. Even though Trump was regarded by some as one of “the most pro-LGBT Republican presidential nominees ever, because he expressed sympathy for the LGBTQIA community after the Orlando nightclub shooting” (Grinberg), Trump did not necessarily express much about the issues that have erupted among the community as much as his conservative advisors, who took on more of an anti-LGBT platform from the start. President Trump’s proposal to rescind the Obama administration’s directive that required schools not to discriminate students and allow them the opportunity to use the bathroom that matches…

Jeffress does an excellent job at grabbing the attention of many religious conservative people. At many times during his article, he mentions God not agreeing with homosexuality and presents many statements about how the Supreme Court’s decisions affects those Christians that disagree with gay marriage. “I believe that ultimately churches that refuse to honor same-sex marriage may face government sanctions—including the loss of their tax-exempt status—for refusing to honor same-sex unions”(Jeffress, 2015). Jeffress once again inflicts more hate towards gay individuals. He suggest that gay marriage is only a burden to many churches and religious individuals because they can't fully display their bigotry the way the entend to.…

    Conversion Therapy

Over the years, conversion therapy has tested on thousands of people, having no data they are able to represent to the scientific community. The American Psychiatric Association (APA), a well known organization of Psychiatric specialists and doctors, declares that “There is sparse scientific data about selection criteria, risks versus benefits of the treatment, and long-term outcomes of "reparative’ therapies. The literature consists of anecdotal reports of individuals who have claimed to change, people who claim that attempts to change were harmful to them, and others who claimed to have changed and then later recanted those claims” ( MLA APA STATEMENT). The lack of evidence that conversion therapists are able to provide about how the therapy has helped their patients proves that it may not be a safe way to help someone become a heterosexual. The APA warns individuals who are thinking of conversion therapy that there are low effective rates and that it includes high mental and physical harm.…
