The work is a complicated design, connecting Mexican, Judeo-Christian, and Hellenic concept. It represents a number of allegorical character- among them Hope, Charity, Faith, Science, and Education-all represented with Mexican appearances. The figure of song was shaped on Guadalupe Marin, who later turn to Rivers’s second wife. Through such appearance of the work as the use of gold leaf and the monuments, elongated figures, the painting reverse the attention of italian and Byzantine art for Rivera’s
