After his trip, Democritus returned to Abdera. While he was traveling, he has already spent all this money, so his brother Damosis took him in. However, the law of Abdera declared that whoever wasted his patrimony would be deprived of the rites of burial. To avoid this shameful punishment, Democritus decided to give a public lectures on the court. He declared that he has traveled the most land on the earth and see the most amounts of countries comparing with other people in his age. He had learned about natural science, philosophy, ethics and mathematics which let his knowledge goes beyond other people in the city. After that he read his works “Great World System” to the public to prove his endeavor. Finally, he was considered to be not guilty
