Dave Ramsey has made a significant impact on my life. Naturally I am a spender when it comes to money; the more money I have, the more I spend. The more money, more expensive things I buy and I never really think about putting any of it into savings for emergencies or for a rainy day. Mr. Ramsey has shown me that saving money and growing wealthy is very possible and not as hard as I had thought it would be. I have learned so much in my econ class and through watching Dave Ramsey. I thought this was an interesting video. I feel that we often do not think about retirement since it is so far off for many of us. Furthermore, I think that it made me realize that I need to really look at how I am currently investing my money and pay closer attention to it. I was stunned by the statement by Professor Teresa Ghilarducci, “The 401 (k) is one of the only products that Americans buy they don’t know the price of it.” Furthermore Ghilarducci went on to state, “It’s also one of the products that Americans buy that they don’t even know its quality or danger.”…

Almost every single chapter in the book mentioned the theme in one way or another, and that was certainly true for the chapters on getting started with investing towards the end of the book. Two of Sethi’s most powerful statements were, “In truth, being rich is within your control, not some expert’s. How rich you are depends on the amount you’re able to save and on your investment plan … there’s no one else to blame if you’re not rich--no advisers, no complicated investment strategy, no market conditions,” (149) and simply, “Investing isn’t only for rich people.” (159) What makes both of those statements so powerful is the fact that they convey the straightforward message that there is no excuse for not taking action to start investing based on your financial goals, and this goes hand in hand with the theme, that you should stop making complaining and take action to take control of your situation. I Will Teach You To Be Rich is certainly one of the most enjoyable reads on the subject of personal finance.…
