The early Americans showed different perspective towards culture, religion and politics. Ralph Waldo Emerson once quoted, “We will walk in our own feet; we will work with our own hands; we will speak our own mind A nation of men will for the first time exists because each believes himself inspired by the Divine Soul which also inspires all men.” (“The American Scholar” 1322). Having a child for an unmarried woman was deemed as sin punishable by the law courts and also a sin enough to send a person to hell while Polly Baker on her opinion thinks this should not be an offence but a praiseworthy action.
