Identities were outlawed as religions and previous nationalities were to be disconnected from each person. Getting rid of religion is something Marx’s wanted. He felt as it was the “opium of the people”, because it gave people something to rely on. All it did was provide false hope to the oppressed in his mind. Many people were upset at this idea. Growing up with these ideas and having devoted so much time into religion, just abolishing it right away didn’t go so smooth. Even if religion provided false hope, there was at least some hope that allowed people to get up in the morning and go to their terrible jobs. Hope allowed the people to continue with their lives knowing that they will always have someone with them. Allowing Marx to come in and remove this only hope would be devastating. People would have been compelled to just head back home but Marx countered that as well. With taking away the label of nationality, people would have felt trapped. No only would they have no religion to provide them hope with, they would also have nowhere to go back to. Everyone one would be the same and society would be filled with many people from different places, but there would sill be no diversity. All the people had would’ve been stripped away.
