How Did Cleopatra Come To Power

Cleopatra VII has been a famous figure throughout history. From her involvement with Julius Caesar and her famous love affair with Marc Antony, Cleopatra has intrigues historians and the world for her beauty, political involvement with Rome, and her intellect and how she was able to keep Egypt from becoming a part of Rome until her death. Cleopatra was the last ruler of Egypt and succeeded in keeping it from Roman control while she was still alive due to her utilizing Roman love interests to advance her political efforts and her position in politics. She seemed to be very cunning and charmed her way around by the way she spoke and acted. She used Caesar’s civil war with Pompey as a means to gain an alley with a powerful army. She would cleverly charm her way into Caesar’s heart and have him assist her in getting rid of her brother and instating herself as Queen of Egypt. By accomplishing this feat she had made sure that Caesar did not lay claim over her lands but rather put her on the throne and formed a strong alliance through her personal relationship with him.
In the case of Marc Antony who was at war with Octavian to gain power over Rome, Cleopatra once again found a way to make sure Egypt remained intact and far from Roman rule. She was able to convince Antony to give back parts of the Eastern Empire that included Lebanon and Syria to her. Cleopatra cleverly made sure to keep her lands under her reign and seemed very successful in her endeavors as Marc Antony gave her back the lands and the support of his army as well his love for her.
