My Writing Class Analysis

How did class affect me? The class forced me to focus on my writing. Before this class, I thought my writing was at least college caliber writing. This class has shown me that, my writing is not college caliber; therefore I must pay special attention to my writing. This is troubling because I have taken and passed two English classes here at citrus. From this class, I see that I need to take more. I just don’t know how to go about working on my writing when college is so regimented and unforgiving. My grade point average is the driving force here at Citrus. Without an acceptable GPA, which is a 3.0 I am basically wasting my time. So how do I take the time to ensure my writing is acceptable, without harming my GPA? This class brought …show more content…
My faith in human kind has been shaken. This past election has been a revelation that I am still reeling from. I cannot believe that we as a people would vote, Trump into office. How could we allow someone so narcissistic and egotistical in the most powerful position in the world? In this election, it became abundantly clear that we as a people are selfish and uninformed. Mankind rules this nation that is why the man won the election. This notion holds true for the way females think as well. Many females did not vote for Clinton because they did not know how the world would react to a female president. Many people did not educate themselves on the state of the union. They simply used their own situation to frame a picture of the United States. We are ignorant to the world and our surroundings. The song that helps me cope with the lunacy is "Mongulu" by Garifuna Collective https:/www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lW5ozjGX1g. This is a song about brother hood. The music starts with a guitar being tuned, and some wood blocks being hit together. The music begins in a traditional way with hand claps, drums, and voice. The drums in the introduction were soft, but as the music progresses the drums become louder. The lyrics to the song make it seem like a sad song. But when the song is sung, it sounds happy, celebratory. The celebratory tone is enhanced when the guitar joins the music. There is a rattle that you can scarcely hear but it adds a little something …show more content…
The music and rhythm are familiar, but the language is not. The language and culture are dying. The physical distance between the United States and Belize is short. Taken into perspective, however, the cultural distance is great. This song has been on youtube for over a year and it has only 174,631 views. Upon reading chapter 5 from Holdstein’s “Who says? The Writer’s Research” I found myself faced with a number of ideas I had been unfamiliar with. After thoroughly examining this chapter, I realized that previously, I hadn’t properly evaluated resources, which is a mistake I made as someone who gathers research and analyzes various ideas in my writing. Throughout this chapter, I took notice that I, as a writer, have three main responsibilities: conducting a thorough search for sources using the proper key words, carefully and meticulously, yet efficiently analyzing sources, and determining the rationality of a source. While these ideas may present themselves as challenging, as I had been previously unfamiliar with them, if I acquire the proper…

As you have noticed, there are a couple things I would like to discuss with you connecting how we should support the students here at ALC. We need to find the proper ways to help them academically and emotionally. When teachers give out work, usually students don’t want to do it. The answer as to why is because students want work that connects to their lives. Something that’s rationale and relatable.…

In article “So you’ve got a Writing Assignment” Corrine Hinton said “When getting a writing assignment, you should read it more than once just to get knowledge of what they are really asking for”. Hinton claims that it is really important that people carefully read their assignment again and again to understand it properly because when people don’t know the purpose of writing assignment exactly then it is really hard to write well. Again I argue that reading is the back bone of writing. I was not a good reader so I was doing mistake that i did not read my writing assignment properly and at the end I failed and it irritates me because I worked hard…

Made it through another semester This semester I learned that some of us read and write more then we think we on a daily basis. I teach "Introduction to Literature" and "Standard Freshman Composition" courses at Suffolk County Community College. I personally design both of my courses, which adhere to the mission statement of the college. In "Introduction to Literature," my students engage in imaginative works of literature, analyze major literary themes and forms, continue training in effective prose writing skills, and demonstrate maturity and thought and style when deconstructing literary elements such as image, plot, character, theme, and conflict. In "Standard Freshman Composition," I prepare my students to produce quality work that utilizes writing techniques, analyzes reading material, and incorporates research techniques that will aide them in their academic future. The outcomes of this course are for the student to be able to construct a central purpose in their expository work, to have coherent organization, improved writing mechanics, to formulate effective thesis statements that demonstrate complex thought, and to integrate relevant, cited sources into their work.…

Have You Developed a System of Writing That Works Most of The Time I really have not looked up different styles of writing let alone realized there was so many different types of it. My method is not necessarily a method per se, I have always for the longest time just wrote down as if I was speaking to someone. That to me was where my biggest praise came from, that I was able to write with such voice and was able to emulate my presence through the pages. When writing for an essay there is a period where I read and reread the question to gather all the information that is needed. Once the question is fully understood, I try to explain myself in full detail.…

What are some writing strategies I have incorporated into my writing style? Until this year I have never used a specific way of writing, I have always just written down what comes to my mind and then edited it to make it sound better. While being in dual English I have learned some new skills that will have a significant change in my writing, and I have decided to start incorporating these writing strategies to help my writing skills grow, they are, brainstorming, outlining what I am going to be writing about and how I am going to write about it, and using writing patterns to follow a map of how my essay is going to be written, through the use of these writing strategies my writing skills have greatly improved in just a short amount of time.…

One of the very first memories I had as a child was lying in bed at night and listening to my mom read stories to me. I would always have my pajamas lying in my bunk bed in my blue paint colored room. Every night before bed I would curl up next to her in bed and pick several books for her to read. As I got older, I would pick bigger, harder, and longer books to read.…

My brain often focuses on certain English and grammar usage rules while typing a paper. On the contrary, this was not always my usual train of thought; I used to write without a care in the world. In other words, I was lazy and did not bother correcting poor English terms in my paragraphs. Moreover, I tried to slide past with the minimum amount of work possible. It was only recently that I began to care specifically about the rules that applied to my essays.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

Writing is a complex beast on its own, devouring words and thoughts without so much as a thought. Unless manipulated and twisted in such ways, words on paper are virtually unable to capture what ever so easily slips off of the tongue. However, throughout the course of the year, writing in styles similar to what is seen prior has enabled me to capture these thoughts that were ever so elusive before. My thoughts applied in print are no longer a mix of ideas and words in the false hope of a good grade; they are now applied, concise thoughts laid out comprehensively.…
