On October 26th, Catherine Clark from MIT came and talked to the class about Henri Cartier-Bresson’s photographs. Bresson had the ability to capture average life in the action of the moment. In 1948 Bresson was sent to China to take pictures of China as a communist nation during a civil war. He stayed there until 1949 and his photographs appeared in many magazines. He had a book made of his pictures called D’une Chine A L'autre. Clark’s role in this is to reconstruct his story and the story behind his pictures. The photo show the relationship between France and China at the time. France became interested in China when they sent Jesuit monks over there. They brought back porcelain, tapestries, and chinoiseries. Les Deux Magot Cafe in France
