How Did Capulet Make Good Decisions In Romeo And Juliet

A father, Capulet, who seems to want the best for his daughter may not be exactly who we have learned to think he is. The deaths of Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, Romeo, Juliet, and Lady Capulet written in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare were the effect of Capulet’s bad decisions. Long lasting feuds, one sided decisions, and unfatherly threats were all important factors in the way that Capulet indirectly ended many precious lives. First, if Capulet would have ended the feud with the montagues, Romeo and Juliet wouldn’t have had to keep their marriage a secret. There were many times during the play when the feud could have been resolved for example when Capulet was arranging his party and he sent his servingman to deliver the invitations saying, “Go, sirrah, trudge about through fair Verona, find those persons out whose names are written there, and them to say my house and welcome on their pleasure stay” (I.ii.35-38). Instead of only inviting capulets he could have added a few montagues to the guest list in an effort make peace with them. Capulet should have taken Juliet’s feelings into consent and discussed his decision with her before permitting the marriage with Paris. When Paris arrived at Capulet’s house and asked Capulet to allow him to marry Juliet, Capulet accepted his request immediately saying, “Sir Paris, I will make a desperate tender of my child’s love. I think she will be ruled in all respects by me. Nay, more, I doubt it not” (III.iv.13-15). Instead of agreeing to Paris’ request, Capulet should have consulted Juliet for her opinion on the marriage.
