How Did Boo Radley A Sin To Kill A Mockingbird

The Use of the Mockingbird In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee she talks about a small family in alabama in the early 1930s during a time of extreme racism. Harper Lee uses three people in her book to symbolize mockingbirds, Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and Atticus Finch. Boo Radley a mysterious figure through the majority of the book and only seen when Scout and Jem get attacked and Boo saved them. Boo would be considered a mockingbird because he saves Scout and Jem even though he doesn't have to. He is also considered a mockingbird because when he does save them some of the adults don’t want to put attention on him “Mr. Finch, taking the one man who’s you and this town a great service an’ draggin’ him with his shy ways into the limelight- to me thats a sin”(Lee 276). This shows that Boo Radley is a mockingbird because it would be a sin to put Boo in the spotlight just like it would be a sin to kill a mockingbird they both didn't do anything to give reason to be mean to them. Tom Robinson was put in court for allegedly raping Mayella Ewell but the facts stood against her even so he was decided guilty and sentenced to death. “He likened Tom’s death to the senseless killing of songbirds”(Lee 241). This shows that the people of the town are comparing Tom to a mockingbird/songbird. Tom was also considered a mockingbird because he didn't do anything to deserve to die, just like a mockingbird never does anything to deserve to die either. Lastly Tom is considered a mockingbird because he has a crippled arm and if that would translate to a bird with a crippled arm it wouldn't be able to fly away just like Tom isn’t
