If I were able to sit down, and have dinner with any person in American history, it would be one of the most brilliant men in our nation’s history, Benjamin Franklin. Franklin is responsible for developing many of the things that we take for granted today such as bifocals, an odometer, and domestic electricity. Furthermore, Franklin was instrumental in establishing our current political system, and is known as one of our country’s founding fathers, thanks to his contributions to our great nation.
As we dine, one of the topics I would discuss with Mr. Franklin would be the topic of modern technology. As I previously mentioned, Benjamin Franklin was a well-known inventor, and therefor would be very interested in many of new technologies we have developed. I would especially like to discuss how some of his inventions have impacted today’s society. For example, his experimentation with electricity led to breakthroughs that led to the creation of our ever-important power grid. Franklin, is the topic of public schools. Mr. Franklin was a strong advocate for public education, and was instrumental in establishing a public school system. However, many would argue that our public school system is failing, with countries such as China and Japan surpassing the United States in many test scores. I would like to hear Mr. Franklins thoughts on why this is happening, and how we may reverse the trend. In addition, I would enjoy hearing his thoughts on college tuition, and the boom in college enrollment. I believe that he may have insights that could improve the United States quality of education, as well as solve the problems facing our post-secondary
