How Did Beethoven Develop

Beethoven had a rough childhood. He had six brothers and sisters but four of them died leaving Beethoven as the eldest of three sons . His father was a musician for Bonn and when Beethoven starting taking an interest in music his father stayed up day and night and taught him because he saw a gift within his son . In 1778 Beethoven had his first public performance at the age of seven . By 1782 at the age of twelve he had published his first piece 9 variations in C Minor for piano . In 1784 Beethoven was appointed to become an organist of the court for Maximillian Franz . However during this time his father became an alcoholic and couldn’t take care of his family. His dynamics quite frequently ranged from ppp to fff . In Op. 18 you can really hear this dramatic change. You can classify Beethoven’s development into three periods. The first period heavily shows influence from Mozart and Haydyn . The second was his mature period where he started to develop as an individual musician . The third period was when Beethoven was highly evolved as a musician . Beethoven used more complex harmonies than anyone during that time. This being said the movements were quite astonishing . Beethoven pushed tempos to the extreme. In his later pieces Beethoven’s pieces are extremely technical . When Beethoven was conducting a piece he got lost in it. When he went deaf another person conducted in his behalf. It was said that Beethoven will still beat even after the piece was over and that the alto soloist would have to take his arm and turn him around to the audience so Beethoven would know what was going on Almost everyone has heard of Beethoven’s 5th symphony. Like all other symphonies at this time it had four movements. The first movement was sonata it opens up the piece in a very dramatic way to gain your attention . The second movement was andante, this movement was more lyrical although it still had some grand moments . The third movement was scherzo, in this piece Beethoven uses it to be dark and dramatic . The fourth movement was the finale and it was explosive and joyful
