Contributions of the Ancient Greeks Ancient greece was one of the most technologically advanced societies during their time. Many of their ideas are still being used to this day. Some of these include, democracy, theatre, and the Olympic Games. Greece was one of many helpful ancient societies. One of the many ways that ancient Greece contributed to society now. One way is with democracy. Democracy was first invented in ancient Athens by Solon, Cleisthenes, and Ephialtes. Unlike the United States’ representative democracy, Athens had a direct democracy. They would vote on every issue directly and every citizen had a say, majority always ruled. Citizens, however, were only considered citizens if they were free, adult men. Women, children, and slaves were not allowed to vote. In today’s world, democracy is used all around the world. The United States is one of the most popular examples, other countries such as Germany, India, and The Netherlands also use a democracy. In the United States today, women and men are allowed to vote once they reach eighteen years old.
